Here’s a recent interview with Koz: Who are Koz?
Bobby (bass) Bohdan (drums) and Dave (guitar)

How did KOZ get together?
Dave – Bobby and I have discussed the possibility of collaboration for years, Bohdan was discovered after a chance encounter at a local practice room. The rest is history…

Bohdan – it’s a bit bizzare but the night before I met the guys I’ve dreamt of alien saucers that only I’ve seen for some reason, and then they took me on to the space ship to fly off into space, so it was a bit of foreshadowing by my subconsciousness

Who writes the songs and lyrics, is it a group effort?
Dave- I’ve always written prolifically but at the turn of the year (2019) I started writing a song a day. Some tunes like “all the time” come from this, whereas others ( Expo/roadhouse) have lyrics from former band members. We’re still getting used to life as a three piece but jamming is yielding more material, sooner or later the quality surfaces…

Bohdan – it’s about feeling what fits in more to us at the moment, jamming around defenetly helps develop some ideas for songs. But in the end we have to be flexible with it, since it’s more about what you feel while playing or listening rather than just getting stuck on one song to make it work.

Who do you take inspiration from? Pixies?

Dave – dada, salt and vinegar crisps and yes, the Pixies. Guided
By voices too as well as loads of other sixties and nineties music. Imagine Stereolab jamming with Pavement with a bit of the clash thrown in for good measure and you’ve just discovered the source code…

Bobby- well i like a little bit of Fusion jazz like Herbie Hancock’s stuff from the 70’s and lately i’ll be getting into Prince.it can be heard in my playing, maybe a little bit as i’ve been using the auto wah pedal on last gig.

Bohdan – king gizzard and the lizzard wizard, the murlocs, thee oh sees, a lot of alternative, more interesting on the instrumental side of things , when the band is creating something new, doing you own thing basically without relying on people saying if it’s conventional or not.

How often do you practice?

Dave – we commune once or twice a week usually…

Bohdan – since plying drums in your own flat will get you kicked out pretty quickly I tend to go down to the practice room any time it’s avaliable during the week. so at least 4 times a week I’m by the drum set.

How many songs do you play live?

Dave – currently there are 14 original songs in our set but we must’ve written about 30 so far…

When’s your next show?

Dave – When the sun and stars align in our favour.
well October more like at a great intimate venue called amore
Del tropico in Poznan. The date is yet to be announced

What would you say is your favourite song?

Dave- I’m a sucker for killer melodies and bittersweet lyrics so for me it has to be Roadhouse, the lyrics were written by someone else which adds a different dynamic.

Bobby- I would like to add that my favourite tune is “All the Time” because it’s loud and poptastic.

Bohdan – it depends, when there’s a rock-out vibe going then “All the Time” if it’s more funky then “church of kozmonology” but definitely one that will always be in my heart is “Expo”
