Rethinking Refugees – Winter Light Festival

It’s November already and it’s also the month where people stand in solidarity to raise awareness about various social issues, for instance ”No Shave November”. Why not include another social cause to show solidarity with in November? We are proud and excited to announce, for the first time ever (and definitely not the last time), Rethinking Refugees – Winter Light Festival.

This is indeed a festive time of the year, where we get to spend our time with our loved ones, with families, with friends; however it is important to remember that many refugees have left behind their homes, lost their families, and waiting endlessly for their asylum status to be approved in squalid conditions of some camps. Here is an opportunity to show solidarity with refugees, know more about their lives, their stories, find ways to raise awareness about them and of course help them.

At the Winter Light Festival we have theatre, music, discussions, documentary screening and workshops focusing on raising awareness about refugees. Here is an outline of what the festival entails, check the schedule below for specific details.

*Lecture and Discussion about the current situation of refugees, about policies and about the psychology of the refugee 'crisis’.

*A wonderful charity concert bring in local musicians together to finish the event

*A documentary screening and discussion

* Workshops include – Communicating about refugees to kids, Basic Arabic food workshop, Crochet workshop, Introduction to Python, and our favourite post-card writing event wherein we write messages of solidarity and our Arabic speaking friends will translate it and we will send it to refugees in various camps in Greece.

Most importantly – the event is ticketed and the details of the ticket prices will be published soon. There is of course a festival pass as well!!! The money raised will be used for two purposes (i) donate money to an NGO (TBA) working in Greece to provide basic necessities for refugees (ii) donate money to the initiative to carry out their activities which would include organising the next event where we invite refugees!!

We will update you with more information shortly, but in the mean time let’s immerse ourselves in this season of generosity and show some solidarity towards the cause of refugees.

Mamy już listopad, jest to miesiąc kiedy ludzie działają razem w istotnych społecznie sprawach np. „No shave november”, czyli „Listopad miesiącem bez golenia”. Dlaczego więc nie iść za tropem i sprawić, żeby był to miesiąc jeszcze innych inicjatyw społecznych? Jesteśmy dumni i podekscytowani, że możemy ogłosić nasze dzieło: Rethinking refugees- Winter Light Festival.

Listopad to uroczysty czas, który spędzamy w gronie naszych najbliższych, rodziny, przyjaciół. Ważne jest, aby pamiętać, że uchodźcy zostawili swoje domy, wielu z nich straciło bliskich, żyjąc w niepewności i podlych obozowych warunkach czeka na otrzymanie i akceptację azylu.

Nasz festiwal jest okazją, aby okazać solidarność z uchodzcami, dowiedzieć się więcej o ich życiu, poznać ich historie, znaleźć sposoby na szerzenie świadomości i oczywiście aby im pomóc.

Podczas naszego festiwalu będzie się działo: teatr, muzyka, panele dyskusyjne, film dokumentalny oraz warsztaty skupiające się na podnoszeniu świadomości o uchodzcach. Poniżej przedstawiamy szczegóły festiwalu.

*Wykład i dyskusja poświęcone obecnej sytuacji uchodźców, prawach oraz psychologii „kryzysu” uchodźczego.

* Premiera totalnie naszej produkcji teatralnej skupiającej się na prawdziwych relacjach uchodźców.

* Fantastyczny koncert charytatywny z udziałem lokalnych artystów.

*Film dokumentalny wraz z panelem dyskusyjnym.

* Warsztaty dotyczące: komunikacji z dziećmi na temat uchodzcow, komunikacji odnośnie uchodźców poprzez sztukę, oprócz tego: warsztaty szydełkowania, warsztaty przyjmowania perspektywy oraz nasz warsztatowy faworyt: pisanie pocztówek, podczas którego słowa wsparcia zostaną przetłumaczone przez naszych znających arabski przyjaciół i potem wysłane do różnych obozów uchodźców na terenie Grecji.

*SZCZEGÓLOWE LINKI DO WSZYSTKICH WYDARZEŃ BĘDĄ WKRÓTCE OPUBLIKOWANE*

Co najważniejsze: festiwal jest biletowany, więc wszystkie szczegóły, ceny biletów etc już wkrótce.

Są dwa cele przeznaczenia zebranych pieniędzy: (1) wsparcie organizacji pozarządowej TBA działającej na terenie Grecji, która zapewnia artykuły pierwszej potrzeby dla uchodźców, (2) wsparcie inicjatywy, aby umożliwić dalsze działanie, co obejmuje organizację naszego następnego wydarzenia, podczas którego naszymi goścmi będą uchodźcy!!

Już wkrótce więcej szczegółów i informacji, w międzyczasie możemy wykorzystać ten listopadowy okres do refleksji nad solidarnością z uchodźcami.
